“Just As We Spring to Life”
Just as it was,
I felt the cotton, lush grass beneath my feet.
I felt the laughing breeze run its fingers through my hair.
Did you feel it?
I flew with the clouds in my hands.
That scent, it’s difficult to even explain.
The sun, smiling, shown soft, warm rays.
You had to have.
I knew it,
When I saw your face.
I knew you—
Belonged in that place.
I felt it.
We danced together.
The brisk river ran through my veins,
Like my waist dipping into chilly water.
You poured that cup into my eyes.
It felt like heaven.
We rode the clouds,
Side-by-side.
I held the sun—
To keep the day.
Please, say you did.
But, I felt the breeze go cold,
And the sun turned to the moon.
The clouds fell sick and cried.
No, I still felt it.
The streams fled into the jagged rocks,
And the grass crunched like paper beneath my feet.
The blue skies sighed as they fell away into the gray.
Where did you go?
I thought I knew,
I felt the sun.
That’s where we belonged.
That’s where we should have stayed.
It was lost, it fell away.
And just as we spring to life,
We grasp on the edges,
We feel the breeze,
And we feel it leave.
Then, you forget.
